Phonics

Here are some useful resources to help your child with their phonics - the method we use to teach children their reading and writing, it is based on learning to hear, identify and manipulate the sounds in the English language and how they link to how they are written.

CHILDREN'S WORK PACKS:

These packs are uploaded on the Heathlands School website, within the 'Children' section: https://www.heathlandsprimarybournemouth.co.uk/topic/children
There will be a pack posted weekly for each year group, with daily work provided for Monday-Friday.

The work from the pack can be written directly in to children's school work books, which were sent home before school closure occurred; the packs can also be downloaded and printed so that children can work on them directly. As of this moment, only families who notified us of not having internet access will receive a paper copy (which has been kindly delivered by Mr Turner on a voluntary basis).

Each pack will consist of maths, English and spelling tasks, as well as ideas for topic-based learning and other creative and practical activities. The maths activities have been sourced from 'White Rose Maths' and video tutorials and answers can be found on their website: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/
We will be starting with 'Week 1' maths work. English and spelling tasks are linked to what your child would have been learning in school!

Teachers will be available to provide further guidance and also to look at what you have produced, so please make sure that you are taking photos of work and uploading it to your portfolio regularly! They will also be continuing to set additional tasks on Education City, as well as offering any other learning suggestions.

As with everything that has occurred during this unusual time, we are fully aware that this system may need adjusting as put it in to practice, but please be reassured that we are trying our best to meet the children's needs as best as we can.

We hope that you find this useful and we look forward to seeing the children's work!
