Help and Support for Parents

We are working with our Community partners to organise courses and information sessions to help and support our parents and families, for example, with literacy and numeracy.  We will use this page on our website and our Facebook page to promote these courses and sessions and other community events which our parents and families may be interested in.  Some of these will be hosted by Heathlands Primary.

Recently we sent home details of free literacy and numeracy courses we are running with Bournemouth and Poole College - flyers for these courses are below.

We are thinking about running a Health Helpers course at Heathlands to promote healthy living. This course provides FREE training for any adult over a couple of sessions to gain a Level 2 qualification in Heath Improvement and is open to anyone living or working in West Howe. If this sounds like something you may be interested in, please contact Carla Pilgrim, Family Support Worker for details.

Careers Advice Service

Ansbury, a registered charity, are offering free careers advice and support to our parents on a one to one basis.

The first sessions are scheduled for Tuesday 15th March to be held at Heathlands Primary Academy.  Booking is essential.  Please call Ansbury direct on 01202 677557.  Support includes:

  • CV Development
  • Interview Preparation Skills
  • Support with Job Search

More information will follow and will be sent home with the children.

"More free health training being offered to people living and working in West Howe!"

Following the success of the free Level 2 Understanding Health Improvement course offered to parents and staff at Kingsleigh Primary School in February and March, Alex from West Howe Community Enterprises will be offering people living and or working in West Howe another opportunity to do the training course. The next and final free course will be run over the five Fridays in April, 10am-12 noon at Fernheath Play Centre, Verney Road in West Howe starting on Friday 1st April.

There are limited spaces available and places will be issued on a first come, first served basis. The course covers topics such as the health of the local area, communication skills, information and facts about smoking, alcohol, exercise and diet and will give you a sought after qualification for your CV. Participants of the last course at Kingsleigh Primary School described it as 'very good' and 'a well run course' and 'enjoying every minute of it'. Participants particularly enjoyed 'looking at different aspects of health and how to improve my own and also others', looking at the 'distribution of health profiles in the UK' and 'finding out about the health inequalities'. One participants said they 'hope more people will choose to do the course'.

This course is being offered for free as part of the Health Helper project for West Howe; an innovative Public Health funded project to try and improve the health of the local community. For more information, please contact Alex on or call the Inspiring Change shop on 01202 570077 or find us on Facebook (search 'West Howe Health Helpers'). I look forward to hearing from you soon and welcoming you on to the course!”

Literacy and Numeracy Courses with Bournemouth and Poole College

These courses will run at Heathlands for parents and members of the local community.  They are free.
